Discipleship Development Team

The Great Commandment tells us that the first responsibility of every follower of Christ is to love God with all of our heart, soul, mind and strength and that our second responsibility is to love our neighbour as ourselves. Learning to translate that high calling into the nit and grit of our everyday lives is a great, often seemingly impossible challenge. And yet Jesus also says that that which he has called us to is 'an easy burden and light yoke'! Putting these words of Jesus together and living in the truth of them is at the heart of what it means to be a disciple of Jesus.

Within the Discipleship Team we are seeking to provide the context and means by which this journey of discipleship will be nurtured. Our main programme to date is Faith Academy. Twice a year Faith Academy provides a seminar type on Sunday evenings for a stretch of seven weeks. The subject matter ranges from thinking about contemporary issues such as divorce or our responsibility to care for the environment, to thought-provoking debates about the tensions between science and faith.

Alongside Faith Academy, the Discipleship Team have been giving some thought to the challenges of providing adequate spiritual nurture for all of our church family, a body of people who are diverse and varied in all of their multi-faceted beauty and energy. An adult Sunday School, retreat days and discipleship mission trips are just a few of the ideas that are being thought about.

So, Fitzroy Family and interested visitor, let us know what you need and we will, under God, seek to serve you through the provision of a quality discipleship programme.
